I've had some nasty sinus thing going on the last few days, so it's been hard to think. Been actually pretty busy at work too. Anyway, next project I'm going to work on is the overarching theme for the 'world' and Rome in particular. Since we're going in a rather different direction and when I'm talking to people about the game I keep having to explain it. Hope to have some of it written an on-line in the next week or so, assuming I get better.

Right now I'm thinking that at startup I'm going to make myself personally responsible for all jobs. What does that mean? That I'll need to at least *touch* on each job before it's completed.

Not because I don't trust whatever staff we eventually get - because I really hope we'll have people who are friends and trustworthy. But because I think I need to do that in order to have a feel for the kinds of players we get, and what sorts of things they're asking about, as well as see what needs clarification or changing in the news files. If things seem to be going smoothly, I hope not to have to do that for very long.

I'd like to have a 24-48 hour turn around, since _someone_ should be on every day, at some point. Not sure how well that will work, however. It'll depend on the number of players and how demanding they turn out to be. Hopefully not too much, I'm really trying to create someplace where the players have as much self-determination as possible and the tools they'll need to work out their problems and stories without turning to the staff often. Hope. :)

Done:

1. The main grid is done, yay!
2. Wrote up the Character Types room and added information about offered species/bloodlines/gifts. Added view specific to vampires, and another with general information.
3. Started mapping the flow of the NEWS Theme files.
4. Wrote up first room of chargen.
5. Started a working list for Skills and Gifted Human Abilities. Weeding things out and deciding what makes sense/how it would work with the proposed combat/test system.
6. Created a 'theatre' nexus, and rooms for off-grid RP.

Still to Do:

1. Determine Skills, Abilities, and Intrinsics we'll offer. Decide what, if any, prerequisites each will require.
2. Write additional consent, harrassment, and idle character policies.
3. Write Theme files.
4. Add FAQ News file.
5. Map and build sewers and catacombs for the underground.
6. Map and build outlying 'wilderness' areas.
7. Add residential streets, apartments, a hotel or two, restaurants, bars, clubs.
8. Create a building policy, determine character quotas.

Once Chargen and Combat system are coded:

1. Write up Chargen rooms.
2. Write News files for xp spending.
3. Write News files for combat and challenges.
4. Set up BB and OOC channels.

Some outside suggestions and input:

1. Staff should be limited to lower-ranked positions, but not leadership ones.

A: I'm not sure I agree, and I think it would seem almost like punishing the Staff for volunteering to help with the game. However, I can see the concern about conflict of interest or the player base being leery of favoritism. I think this is offset however by the fact that EVERY character goes through the same chargen, has the same opportunity to set their sheets, and has to work their way up through the hierarchy of their chosen group the same way. Combat is automated so there can not be any 'cheating' -- and if a Staff person finds a way to do so then they're going to be booted and their characters removed anyway. Also, Staff characters will be subject to the same risk of death during challenge as any other PC.

2. Limit each player to 1 vampire and 1 lycanthrope each, but unlimited human PC's.

A: I agree with this completely. We need a way to limit cross-over and I don't see us ever really having the kind of player base that would necessitate us to give each player more than the two preternatural characters noted.

Gifted humans would be limited to one per Player at a time as well.

3. Only Humans can be marked as Human Servants, no lycanthropes.

A: This was my question and the answer pretty much agrees with what I was considering. We won't be offering Tri's, so there's no _need_ for shape-shifters to be Marked.

Grid Descriptions

I keep telling myself that if I finished just 2 descriptions a day, I could be done with the main grid in less than two weeks. Don't know if that's going to happen, but I'm going to try. Goal is to have the main grid (not including businesses/outlying areas/sewers/catacombs) done by the end of the month.

The husband insists he can't proceed with the stats system until I pin down all the various powers we want to include. I don't understand why he can't just make up a few to start on a template. ;) Anyway, progress is made in fits and starts but we're having fun.

** Update ** Only 7 more rooms on my original list, but I'm not liking the layout for these last ones. I'm going to look at the map again and probably switch things around a bit, then finish the rooms. I should still be done by the end of the week.

I've also started on writing up the non-stat/sheet related portions of chargen.

Thoughts, minor progress

The Metro is done, we'll probably be adding a 'train' system to outlying areas. I also reworked part of the grid, making it a little easier to get around. Not a lot to report really.

I've been doing quite a bit of thinking about a few things, prior to writing them up. For instance:

1. **Decided** I've made a firm decision that Human Servants will be just that - Human. Shapeshifters can not be Marked vampire Servants.

2. Following the 'canon' the books are starting to establish for tigers. I think I want to have at least the three larger felines (Leopard, Lion, and Tiger) in addition to Rat and Wolf when we start out. But ... I don't much care for some of what was written about tigers in 'The Harlequin', it just clashes too much with prior 'canon'. I think I may include them, but write my own info and simply disregard what was in the books.

3. Storytellers, still working on how exactly that will work. Right now we'll probably have several Storyteller logins that anyone can use to run scenes. Maybe a BB where people can advertise scenes they'd like run for them that would work better with an outside party providing the atmosphere and NPC's. We'll have to set guidelines of course, to outline what sorts of scenes would actually need a staff person to sign off - generally only if it's going to affect a whole group (blowing up the sanctuary?) or the whole grid in general (invasion? Flood?).
